Ferdiox respects your privacy. We deliberately collect as little personal information as reasonably possible.
Ferdiox.com is operated by Astronomica Ltd. For the purposes of UK data protection law, Astronomica Ltd is the data controller for personal information processed through Ferdiox where we determine how and why that information is used.
For privacy enquiries, requests or concerns, contact:
1. The information we collect
For ordinary visitors to Ferdiox.com, we do not require you to create an account, provide your name, provide your email address or otherwise identify yourself simply to read the website.
We may process information in the following limited circumstances.
Website statistics
We use Jetpack Stats, provided by Automattic, to understand basic information about how Ferdiox is used.
The statistics available to Ferdiox are aggregate statistics, such as:
- numbers of visits and page views;
- pages and posts viewed;
- referring websites or search terms;
- outbound link clicks;
- approximate country or region;
- browser or device information; and
- general website performance information.
Ferdiox does not use Jetpack Stats to build advertising profiles about individual visitors and does not use the statistics available to us to identify individual visitors.
Jetpack and Automattic may nevertheless temporarily process technical information needed to produce those statistics. This can include an IP address, user agent, visiting and referring URLs, timestamps, browser language, country code and, where applicable, WordPress.com account identifiers.
Automattic currently states that identifying Jetpack Stats logs are retained for 28 days and are not made available to the website owner through Jetpack Stats.
We use this information only to understand readership, maintain the website and improve the service.
Our lawful basis for associated processing of personal information is our legitimate interest in understanding how our website is used, maintaining its performance and improving Ferdiox, while using a deliberately limited and privacy-conscious analytics service.
Where storage or access technologies used for statistical purposes qualify for an exemption under applicable privacy and electronic communications law, we may rely upon that exemption. Where consent is legally required for a non-essential technology, we will obtain the required consent before using it.
We do not use Ferdiox analytics for personalised advertising or cross-site behavioural profiling.
Emails and other correspondence
If you contact us, we will receive the information you choose to provide.
This may include:
- your email address;
- your name;
- your organisation;
- the contents of your message;
- attachments you send us; and
- any other information you voluntarily include.
We use this information to read and respond to your correspondence, deal with requests, maintain appropriate business records and, where relevant, provide or discuss services.
Depending on the circumstances, our lawful basis will normally be:
- legitimate interests, where we are responding to ordinary correspondence or administering our business;
- contract, where processing is necessary to perform a contract with you or take steps at your request before entering into one; or
- legal obligation, where we are required to retain or use information by law.
We do not add people who contact us to unrelated marketing lists merely because they have emailed us.
2. Information we do not ordinarily collect
Unless you deliberately provide information to us or use a service which expressly requires it, Ferdiox does not ordinarily seek to collect:
- your date of birth;
- your home address;
- precise location information;
- government identification;
- special category personal data;
- criminal offence information; or
- information for behavioural advertising.
Please do not send sensitive personal information unless it is genuinely necessary.
3. Cookies and similar technologies
Ferdiox aims to minimise its use of cookies and similar technologies.
Jetpack or other essential elements of the website may use technical mechanisms necessary to provide, secure or measure the service.
Where UK privacy law requires consent before information is stored on or accessed from your device, we will obtain consent unless a legal exemption applies.
We do not knowingly use advertising cookies or cross-site behavioural advertising trackers on Ferdiox.
4. How long we keep information
We do not keep identifiable information merely because it might be useful someday.
Ordinary correspondence will normally be deleted when it is no longer reasonably required. As a general working retention period, routine enquiries may be retained for up to 24 months after the last substantive correspondence, unless there is a legitimate reason to retain them for longer or a shorter period is appropriate.
Information connected with a contract, transaction, dispute, legal claim, accounting requirement or regulatory obligation may be retained for longer where reasonably necessary or legally required.
Financial and accounting records may need to be retained for the periods required by UK tax and company law.
Jetpack Stats information is subject to Automattic’s own retention arrangements. Identifying Jetpack Stats logs are currently stated by Automattic to be retained for 28 days.
Information may persist temporarily in secure backups after deletion where immediate removal from every backup is not technically practical. Such information will not ordinarily be restored or otherwise used except where necessary for legitimate backup, security or recovery purposes.
5. Who receives your information
We do not sell your personal information.
We do not rent personal information to advertisers or data brokers.
Personal information may be processed by organisations that provide services necessary for us to operate Ferdiox, including, where applicable:
- website and infrastructure providers;
- Automattic, in connection with Jetpack;
- email and communications providers;
- payment providers;
- professional advisers such as accountants or lawyers; and
- authorities or regulators where disclosure is legally required.
We seek to disclose only the information reasonably necessary for the relevant purpose.
6. International processing
Some of our service providers may process information outside the United Kingdom.
In particular, Automattic operates internationally and states that information associated with its services may be stored or accessed outside the UK.
Where a restricted international transfer of personal information takes place, we and/or the relevant service provider will use an appropriate mechanism required by applicable data protection law, such as applicable adequacy regulations or approved contractual safeguards.
You may contact us at hello@astronomica.uk if you would like further information about safeguards relevant to personal information we control.
7. Security
We take reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect personal information against unauthorised access, disclosure, alteration, loss or destruction.
No internet service can guarantee absolute security, but we deliberately minimise the amount of personal information we collect in order to reduce both privacy and security risks.
8. Your data protection rights
Depending on the circumstances and the lawful basis on which information is processed, UK data protection law may give you rights including the right to:
- ask whether we hold personal information about you;
- obtain a copy of personal information we hold about you;
- have inaccurate information corrected;
- have incomplete information completed;
- request deletion of personal information;
- request restriction of processing;
- object to certain processing;
- receive certain information in a portable format; and
- withdraw consent where processing is based on consent.
These rights are not all absolute and exemptions may apply.
Your right to object
Where we process your personal information on the basis of legitimate interests, you have the right to object to that processing in circumstances provided by data protection law.
If personal information were ever used for direct marketing, you would have the right to object to that use at any time.
To exercise a privacy right, email hello@astronomica.uk.
We may need to ask for enough information to verify your identity before disclosing or deleting personal information.
9. Deletion requests
If you ask us to erase personal information and the right to erasure applies, we will delete or anonymise the relevant information unless we need to retain some or all of it for a lawful reason.
For example, we may need to retain limited information to comply with accounting or tax requirements, establish or defend legal claims, comply with another legal obligation or record that a privacy request has been dealt with.
The right to erasure is not an unconditional right to require deletion of every record in every circumstance.
10. Complaints
If you have a concern about our handling of your personal information, please contact us first at hello@astronomica.uk so that we can investigate it.
You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO), the UK’s data protection regulator.
11. Automated decision-making
Ferdiox does not use personal information collected through ordinary website visits or correspondence to make solely automated decisions about individuals which produce legal or similarly significant effects.
12. Children
Ferdiox is not designed to collect personal information from children.
If you believe that a child has provided personal information to us unnecessarily, contact hello@astronomica.uk and we will consider an appropriate deletion request.
13. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy where our services, technology or legal obligations change.
Where a change materially affects how we use existing personal information, we will take reasonable steps to make that change clear before beginning the new processing where required by law.
The date at the top of this page shows when this policy was most recently updated.
